Nanjing has a humid climate of northern subtropics, with four distinct seasons and abundant rain. The average autumnSeptember to November temperature in Nanjing is 19.0 -27.0 .

Electricity in China is 220V, 50Hz. The power plugs used in China are of the three-pin or two-pin, square-shaped type.

 

Languages

Chinese are the official languages. The official languages are used in government departments in all official documents and communications. Chinese and English is generally used in trade, tourism and commerce.

Population

Nanjing has 11 districts with a total area of 6587km2. The area of built-up area in 2016 was 1125.78km2, with a permanent population of 8.27 million, an urban population of 6.781 million, and an urbanization rate of 82%. It is the only megacity in the Yangtze River Delta and East China.

Nanjing is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and does not practice Daylight Savings Time.

Transportation

1.     Airport

Located on Lukou Street in Jiangning District of Nanjing, the airport is about 35 km away from the downtown of the city. As one of the ten major airports in China, it enjoys the main air routes of the country. It is the main freight airport in east China. It serves as an alternate aerodrome for Shang-hai Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport, and vice versa. It is a large hub airport and a regional air transport hub in China. At present, it has domestic flights to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Qingdao, Yantai, Changchun, Dalian, Harbin, Shenyang, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Shenzhen, Nanning, Haikou, Sanya, Chongqing and Kunming, etc., as well as international flights toTokyo, Busan, Incheon, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Phuket, Sydney, Los Angeles and other cities.Take regular bus from Nanjing Lukou International Airport to the city proper, railway station and surrounding places of Nanjing.

2.Railway Service

Nanjing is a key railway transport hub for north China, east China and central China, and is the

railway transport hub center in the eastern region of China. In the national pattern of four longitudinal and four horizontal railways, the south-north and east-west trunk railways meet in Nanjing, making it an important hub.

Major railway stations in the city include Nanjing Railway Station, Nanjing South Railway Station,Liuhe Railway Station, Jiangpu Railway Station, Xianlin Railway Station, Zijinshan Railway Station,Jiangning Railway Station, Jiangning West Railway Station and Lishui Railway Station. Of the total,Nanjing Railway Station is one of the ten major railway hubs in China; and Nanjing South Railway Station is also a railway hub in China and one of the largest railway stations in Asia, mainly taking charge of the high-speed rail transport task.

2.     Highway Service

Nanjing has a very developed highway system, with nine high-grade highways leading to the surrounding provinces and cities. There are all together eight long-distance bus stations in the city; they are the Nanjing Bus Passenger Station,Nanjing North Long-distance Bus Station, Nanjing East Long-distance Bus Station, Nanjing South Bus Passenger Station, Jiangning Bus Station, Lishui Bus Station, Gaochun Bus Station and Nanjing Getang Bus Passenger Station.

3.     Subway

A total of ten subway lines are available in Nanjing, including Lines 1, 2, 3, 4,10, S1 (to airport) ,S7, S8 and S9, leading to most important sections and scenic spots in the urban area of Nanjing.

4.     Bus

Nanjing boasts a developed bus service system. By 2014, there were 369 operating routes and 5,646 vehicles in service. The Nos.1-159 buses run on routes in urban areas; the numbers be-

ginning with“3” mark minibuses in urban areas; those beginning with “Y” are nighttime buses in urban areas; those beginning with Chinese character (you) are tourist buses in urban areas;

those beginning with“6” are buses running in the Pukou and Liuhe districts; those beginning with Chinese character (wen) are buses shuttling between downtown and the suburbs. All the

buses in Nanjing require self-service ticketing. Ordinary buses have a single fare of one Yuan, and air-conditioned buses two Yuan. The fare of buses heading for suburbs is charged according

to actual mileage.

5.     Taxis:

All taxis are licensed metered taxis.

 

Attractions

Nanjing is rich in tourism resources and has a developed tourism industry. It is one of the first outstanding tourist cities in China. The Zhongshan Scenic Area and Confucius Temple Qinhuai scenery belt is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. As of 2014, Nanjing has one world cultural heritage, 49 national key cultural relics protection units, 109 cultural relics protection units in Jiangsu Province, and 516 municipal cultural relics protection units.
